Attorney Tracey A. Wood


Attorney Tracey Wood is a shareholder with the Madison criminal defense firm of Van Wagner & Wood, S.C. A native of Wisconsin, Attorney Wood is a Board of Regents member of the National College for DUI Defense (NCDD), President-elect of the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (WACDL), a member of the Dane County Bar Association (DCBA), and a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL). Tracey is past president of the Dane County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.

Attorney Wood is a member of the American Bar Association and the Wisconsin State Bar, and is admitted to the U.S. District Court Eastern District of Wisconsin, U.S. District Court Western District of Wisconsin, and the U.S. Court of Appeals 7th Circuit.

Attorney Tracey Wood is both nationally and locally regarded in the highest esteem for her leading authority and representation of people accused of drunk driving, federal crimes, and Wisconsin state crimes. Attorney Wood is the first ever Wisconsin attorney to serve on the National College for DUI Defense Board of Regents, and both its only female attorney and youngest regent. She has repeated been voted as one of Madison's Best Criminal Defense Lawyers.

She is a contributing author to "Drunk Driving Defense", by Lawrence Taylor and Stephen Oberman, author of numerous authorities regarding drunk driving, including "Challenging Prior Operating While Intoxicated Convictions" (published in Wisconsin Defender, a special trade journal for criminal defense law), and is currently co-authoring a new book entitled, "Wisconsin DUI Defense - The Law and Practice", with Attorney James Nesci, which will be available in 2008.

Attorney Wood is also known for her expertise in defending individuals accused of federal and state crimes such as sexual assault and theft. Attorney Tracey Wood successfully litigated United States v. Andrez Perez, 50 F. 3d 396 7th cir. (1995). Tracey's most famous trial win to date was in the federal Fort McCoy military vehicle theft case which received national media coverage and even received a nod from Jay Leno on the Tonight Show.

Tracey earned her J.D. at the University of Wisconsin Law School in Madison, Wisconsin in 1992. She graduated with a B.A. at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1988. In addition to serious traffic violations and drunk driving cases, she handles all types of criminal defense cases at every stage in both Wisconsin state and Federal courts.
